MARVIN FREDERICK KLOOSTER was born July 17, 1930 to Herman and Tillie Klooster at the family farm outside of Adrian, Minnesota. He attended Adrian Public School where he participated in the high school play with his best friend, Robert Terry, lettered in football and graduated in 1950. Shortly after graduation, Marvin voluntarily enlisted in the Army National Guard where he proudly served his country with his cousin, Fabe Klooster, friend, Robert Terry and several other soldiers from the Adrian area. Marvin was in active combat and fought with the 2nd infantry division in the Korean War when he was shot in the chest by enemy fire. His life was saved by the pocket bible and ammunition clip he carried in his chest pocket. He was awarded the prestigious Combat Infantry Award for his service. When Marvin and his cousin Fabe returned home, they left Robert Terry MIA in Korea.
After his military service, Marvin drove semi-truck for his brother, Richard Klooster. He then met the love of his life, Ramona Peterson, and after a whirlwind courtship, they were married in October of 1956. Together they built a new house in Adrian. Marvin drove his truck to Montana to pick up the lumber for their new home. They lived in the house until 1964 when they purchased a farm south of Adrian. Marvin and Ramona raised two sons, Kevin and Kenny, on the farm. They milked cows, raised hogs, grew crops and enjoyed family, friends and fun. Marvin continued to farm and drive road grader until his retirement in 1993.
Marvin was always a favorite to his nieces and nephews, his grandsons and children of all ages. Many summers were spent celebrating the 4th of July at the family farm where he would grill hamburgers and hotdogs for everyone. A fireworks display second to none always ended the festivities. He enjoyed bowling, card club and fishing with his church family. He had a "sweet-tooth" and each night he would ring the wind chime hanging over his chair to signal it was time for ice cream. Marvin and Ramona loved to travel. They traveled across the United States, Hawaii, a cruise to the Caribbean and overseas to Germany. Many of their adventures included friends as well as family. No matter where Marvin went, he had an incredible knack for striking up conversations with strangers and connecting them to someone he knew. He loved his family. He loved his farm. He worked hard and enjoyed the fruits of his labor.
Marvin Frederick Klooster returned to his heavenly home on March 14, 2022, after residing at the Veterans Home in Luverne, Minnesota. He was 91 years old.
Marvin is survived by his two sons, Kevin Klooster (Gwen Mulder) of Adrian and Kenneth (Jill) Klooster of St. Peter, Minnesota; grandsons, Cody Klooster, Kory Klooster, Chandler Klooster and Cameron Klooster; many nieces and nephews; and other family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ramona Klooster, with whom he was married to for 58 wonderful years; parents; brothers, John (Mary) Klooster, Richard (Marge) Klooster and Melvin (Angie) Klooster; and sisters, Gesina (Vernon) Baumgard and Ann Klooster.
