MARY LOUISE BROCKBERG was born on July 27, 1947 to Robert Peter and Patricia (Everts) Burkard in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She was raised by Clara Parks and grew up in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. She attended both elementary and high school at St. Mary’s Catholic School in Dell Rapids, graduating in 1965. On March 14, 1969 she was united in marriage to Richard Brockberg at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dell Rapids. After their marriage she joined Dick as a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone where they have been members ever since. The couple lived on a farm at the edge of Pipestone where Dick farmed. MaryLou was a homemaker through the first years of marriage, taking care of the kids at home. Once her children were in school and high school she began working as a nursing assistant at the Hiawatha Manor in Pipestone, and later the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone. She also worked for various employers in the Sioux Falls, South Dakota area, which is where she was currently working. She passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, September 26, 2019 at the age of 72 years, one month, and 29 days.
MaryLou was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone where she had been teaching Sunday School for 25 years. She loved to crochet and sew, making many baptism blankets and other special items. She cherished the time spent attending her grandchildren’s events and loved spending time with her family. She was a neighborly lady, always opening her door to anyone for a visit. She always said, “Please and thank you” immediately after asking you for something, because she just knew you were going to do it!
