Matilda Ver Sluys Lange

January 13, 1929 — February 10, 2022

MATILDA VER SLUYS LANGE was born on January 13, 1929 to Cornelius and Jennie (Ver Mum) Ver Sluys in Sioux County, Iowa. She was raised and attended school in various areas of northwest Iowa. In 1936, Matilda and her family moved to Minnesota and lived on several farms in Pipestone County. On March 4, 1949 she was united in marriage to Louis “Ted” Lange. She enjoyed raising her family along with helping with the farm chores and gardening. Matilda also worked at the Flandreau River View Manor as a nurse’s aide for five years. The couple moved to Ortonville, Minnesota and then to Canon City, Colorado before returning to Minnesota in 1996, living in Slayton and Pipestone. On December 23, 2001, Ted preceded Matilda in death. In January 2003 Matilda returned to Canon City, Colardo, where she resided until moving back to Adrian, Minnesota in 2016. She moved to Adrian Living Cottages in May of 2018. On February 10, 2022, at the age of 93 years and 27 days, Matilda passed away peacefully at Adrian Country Cottages.

She was active in her church circle and taught Sunday School to the third and fourth grade students. Matilda enjoyed working on embroidery projects, was an avid reader and loved listening to Blue Grass music.

Matilda is lovingly remembered by her children; Anita Hallum and her husband, Carl of Adrian, Minnesota, Richard Lange and his wife, Janice of Tomashat, Washington, Robert Lange, and Linda Johnson of Redwing, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren; and her sister Genevieve “Toots” Kiecksee. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, William; sister Gertrude Paulson; son-in-law Robert Johnson; and brother-in-law, Wilmar Kiecksee.
