MISTI SUE HANSON was born to Jerry and Janice Stratton in Sioux City, Iowa on September 8 th, 1962. Misti was the eldest of four, having three younger brothers; Robin, Corey and James. Extended family was an important part of Misti’s life. Growing up, many summers were spent camping with grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. At a young age Misti had many family responsibilities. Her mother was legally blind and her father was terminally ill. Misti worked hard to help carry whatever load she could, this included helping with her little brothers and even getting a special driver’s license at age 14 in order to get the family to doctor appointments. On September 8th, 1979 Misti married the love of her life, Randall (Randy) Charles Hanson. Misti and Randy were married in her parents’ backyard in Luverne, MN on a beautiful fall day surrounded by family and friends. The newlyweds always seemed to be on the move. Within the first 10 years of marriage, they lived in several different places making lasting friends with each move they made. These places included Rapid City, SD; Tulsa, Ok; San Diego, CA and Christiansburg, VA. In 1984, while living in Tulsa, Misti and Randy welcomed the joy of their life, their daughter Emily Rachel. Wanting to be closer to family, in January 1991 they made one final move back to Minnesota where they settled in the village of Kanaranzi.

On May 6th, 1979 Misti was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She was a zealous witness, always observing the people around her and looking for opportunities to share the good news. Over the years she formed many close friendships with fellow witnesses, often becoming closest to those whom she spent time with in the field ministry. Helping her daughter Emily develop a love for Jehovah and for the ministry was of utmost importance to Misti. She spent much time with Emily in the ministry, setting a wonderful example of showing love and patience to Bible students as they learned about Jehovah. Misti loved children. She was “auntie Misti” to all of her nieces and nephews and could usually be found playing, telling stories and laughing with them. This love also carried over to the children in her congregation. Often, as the children became teenagers, she would continue to befriend them, encouraging them to serve Jehovah and choose good association. Misti had many hobbies, but the ones closest to her heart were the ones she learned from her dad and her grandpa. Among these were collecting rocks and shells and her favorite hobby, fishing.

Misti is lovingly remembered by her husband Randy Hanson, her daughter Emily (Thomas) Gauquie, her mother Janice Stratton, and her brothers Robin (Sheri) Stratton, Corey (Carmen) Stratton and James (Jenny) Stratton. Misti was preceded in death by her father Jerry Stratton.
