Nancy Joy Powell was born on October 12, 1954, to Arthur and Geneva (Lamp) Powell in Pipestone, Minnesota. While growing up, Nancy attended Pipestone High School, graduating in 1972. During high school, she enjoyed hanging out with her friends, attending football games and participating in her local 4-H. She continued her education by enrolling at Nettleton College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to obtain her secretarial degree. After completing her degree, Nancy moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she worked for Republic Airlines. After many years in Minneapolis, she moved to Sioux Falls and worked at various jobs throughout her time there, including working at the Sanford Hospital until her retirement. In August of 2025, she was diagnosed with Leukemia and in October of 2025, she moved into StoneyBrook Suites Assisted Living in Sioux Falls. Nancy passed away peacefully in her home on Thursday, December 25, 2025, at the age of 71 years, two months and 13 days.
Nancy thoroughly enjoyed spending her time reading, sewing and shopping. She deeply appreciated her time at the Assisted Living - she spent countless hours playing bingo, cards and doing crafts with the other ladies. She always looked forward to sharing a good meal with friends. In her early years, Nancy loved to travel in her spare time. Her kind, quiet personality will be missed by those who had the honor to be a part of her life.
Nancy is lovingly remembered by her siblings, Janelle (Larry) Steffen of Colman, South Dakota, Sharolyn Paige of Cape Coral, Florida, Rick (Tamara) Powell of Brandon, South Dakota, and Jodee (Mark) Griebel of Pipestone, Minnesota; and nephews, Jared Powell of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Conner Griebel of Sioux Falls, Kade Powell of Brandon, South Dakota and Cody Powell of Brandon. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Geneva Powell; brother, Steve Powell; and niece, Karey Powell.
