Nina Alvina Butman

Nina Alvina Butman was born to Fred and Nannie (Hargens) Ellgen on July 5, 1925 in Murray County near Lake Wilson, Minnesota where she was raised on the family farm. She was baptized on October 25, 1925 in the Evangelical Church in Lake Wilson.  She attended country school in District 22. She was confirmed on April 18, 1943 at Trosky Lutheran Church in Trosky, Minnesota.   She worked at a nurse’s aide at the Ashton Memorial Hospital in Pipestone.  On October 28, 1946, she was united in marriage to Dale Butman at the Holland Lutheran Church in Holland, Minnesota.  After their marriage, they lived on the family farm. In 1964, they moved to a farm by Pipestone, Minnesota where she helped do a number of different chores and farm activities.  She later owned and operated, with Dale, the Toggery Cleaners and later became employed at Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone as a nurses' aid for 23 years before retiring. Dale preceded her in death in 1988.   In December of 2022 she became a resident at the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone.  She died there on Sunday, May 14, 2023 at the age of 97 years.  

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone where she was active in the Ladies Circle.  She enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking.  

She is lovingly remembered by her children, Karen (fiancé, Jim Bork) Lovell of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Mary (Tom) Curtis of Mankato, Minnesota and David (partner, Debbie Lipka) Butman of Rice Lake, Wisconsin; four grandchildren, Chad Curtis of Glenside, PA, Corie Hanson of Mankato, MN, Lucas Lovell of Montrose, CO and Andrea Butman of Prague, Czech Republic; and six great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; her parents; and her siblings, Francis Preston, Lenora Smith, Viola Pearson, Florene Pearson, Ellen Ditmeyer, Les Ellgen and Norman Ellgen.
