Norman Louis McCord was born to Glenneta Mae McCord on January 9, 1948 in Sioux City, Iowa. He was raised by his mother and stepfather Harvey Herman Luckow in various towns all over the State of Iowa where he also received his education. On March 23, 1965, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served until his discharge from the service on November 29, 1968. After his discharge, Norm became employed by Cargill, Inc., at Storm Lake, Iowa. On July 3, 1969, he married Linda Kruckman at the First Church of Christ in Storm Lake. Following their marriage, they lived in Storm Lake. This marriage was blessed with their son, Brian. In April, 1974, Cargill transferred Norm to Fonda, Iowa, and then to Sioux Rapids, Iowa. In 1979, they were once again transferred to Maynard, Minnesota. On November 1, 1991, they moved to Pipestone, Minnesota where Norm continued to work for Cargill until December, 1993, when he had worked for them for a total of 25 years. In May, 1995, he became employed as a front desk receptionist at the Calumet Inn in Pipestone; and in November, 1996, he began working at United Building Center as the inside salesman. He worked both jobs full-time until April, 2001. In October, 2001, Norm changed occupations and became the full-time night manager at Hank's Foods in Pipestone. He was well-known there for greeting people with the saying, "Welcome to the wonderful world of Hank's!" He continued working there for over 11 years until his retirement in April, 2013.
Norman was raised in the Lutheran faith. He was a member of the Michael Boock American Legion Post 6 in Pipestone. For nine years, he volunteered his time as a Boy Scout Scoutmaster. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, woodworking and fishing. He especially enjoyed caring for his flower garden. Norm was a friendly face that made countless people's days brighter. He deeply enjoyed spending hours talking with his friends over a good cup of coffee. Norm passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at the Pipestone County Hospice House at the age of 78 years, one month and 15 days.
He is lovingly remembered by his daughter-in-law, Denise McCord of Tea, South Dakota; and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; his son, Brian; parents, Harvey and Glenneta Luckow; his brother, Harvey Luckow; his father-in-law, Herbert Kruckman; and his mother-in-law, Beaulah Kruckman.
