Peggy Hewitt

Peggy Diane Hewitt, 72, was born on September 26, 1953, to Fred and Delores (Stevens) Hendricksen in Mitchell, South Dakota. Fred and Delores made the move to Luverne, Minnesota when Peggy was in the sixth grade. Fred purchased a body shop in Luverne, which became Fred’s Body Shop. Peggy graduated from Luverne High School in 1971. After graduation, Peggy attended Stewart’s School of Hair in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she later became a hairstylist for Stewart’s Hair. Peggy was with Stewart’s Hair from 1972 through 1980. On April 20, 1974, Peggy married David Hewitt at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. Though the couple later divorced, they were blessed with six children. In 1980, Peggy began an admin position working with newborn babies in the Luverne Community Hospital. She worked there for two years before starting her own daycare. She was a daycare provider for over twenty years. Peggy loved all the children she cared for. She especially enjoyed baking and decorating birthday cakes for her children and for the daycare children. Peggy continued to do hair on the side for friends, family, and her daycare children. While in daycare, Peggy helped start the Rock County Daycare Association and served on the state board for daycare providers. In 2003, she went to work as an associate manager at Shell Gas Station. In 2006 she worked as a customer service associate for HSBC/Capital One until December of 2015. Peggy purchased the Battle Creek Steakhouse on Lake Vermillion, South Dakota in 2016 and operated the business until 2019. She then began working at Experity Health in their medical billing department. In November of 2023, Peggy was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer. On Monday, May 11, 2026, Peggy died at the Sanford Hospice Foundation Cottage in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 72 years, 7 months, and 15 days.

Peggy was a former member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. She was currently attending Celebrate Church in Sioux Falls. She enjoyed knitting stockings and scrapbooking. She also enjoyed decorating birthday cakes for Dairy Queen or Glen’s Grocery Store and spending Saturday mornings filling in and helping at the sale barn in Luverne. She most loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Peggy is lovingly remembered by her six children, Jennifer Besta of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, Emilie Hewitt of St. Paul, Minnesota, Travis (Lisa) Hewitt of Tea, South Dakota, Andrea Hewitt of Chancellor, South Dakota, Micah Hewitt of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Sabrina (Ryan) Narveson of Volga, South Dakota; 21 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five siblings, Gregory (Julie) Hendricksen of DeForest, Wisconsin, Cindy (Daniel) Rierson of Roseville, Minnesota, sister-in-law, Gayle Hendricksen of Tea, South Dakota, Kristi (Eric) Mueller of Marion, Iowa, and Nancy (Terry) Hoogland of Luverne, Minnesota; and many other relatives and friends.
