Richard “Chuck” Charles Schroyer

was born on August 26, 1961 to Mark and Hazel (Jensen) Schroyer in Pipestone, Minnesota. In September, 1961, he was baptized at First Lutheran Church in Pipestone.  He was raised and attended school in Pipestone where he participated in football, wrestling and track.  After his graduation from Pipestone High School in 1980, he attended University of South Dakota in Vermilion and later Southwest State in Marshall. He graduated with a degree in education and later got his Masters Degree. On January 15, 1982, he was married to Debra Delaney in Pipestone. Chuck taught at Inwood High School in Inwood, Iowa, Slayton High School in Slayton, Minnesota and later Pipestone Area School in Pipestone. He loved teaching and coaching young people and was fortunate to see both his sons participate at the state level in sports. After his retirement in 2020, he worked part time at the Pipestone National Monument.  On Tuesday, February 20, 2024, he was admitted to Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where he died on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the age of 62.  

Chuck enjoyed fishing, golfing, football, and hunting. He also enjoyed traveling to National Parks, working at the Monument, grilling and camping. He loved entertaining others and hanging out with his grandsons. He and Deb recently celebrated 41 years of marriage and Deb’s retirement with a month long trip to New Mexico.  

He was lovingly remembered by his wife, Debra Schroyer of Pipestone; two sons, Justin (Jessica) Schroyer and Creighton (Tanya) Schroyer, both of Pipestone;  four grandchildren, Torin, Kashton, Liam, and Kai Palmer; mother-in-law, Colleen Delaney of Pipestone; siblings, Sam Schroyer of Oakland, California, Gail (Jim) Spencer of Hollywood, California, Cheryl (Dale) Johnson of Lake Benton, Minnesota, Kae (Robert) Honeman of Erhard, Minnesota and Lori Schroyer of Seattle, Washington; and in-laws, Jim (Randi) Delaney, Dan (Linda) Delaney, Julie (Louie) Manderscheid, Jon (Mary) Delaney, Mary (Randy) Kor; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one nephew, Nathen Ross Johnson; and father-in-law, James B. Delaney.  

Memorials are preferred and may be directed to Chuck's family.
