Sara Van Nieuwenhuizen

Sara Jane Van Nieuwenhuizen was born on October 16, 1957 in Luverne, Minnesota to Russell and Johanna (Beyer) McClure. She was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School in 1976. On June 18, 1976 she was united in marriage to Randy Lee Van Nieuwenhuizen in Luverne. The couple moved to Bozeman, Montana in May 1983. In 1991, they returned to Luverne and Sara worked at Minnwest Bank and later at Kozlowski Insurance and worked there until she retired in December 2023. Sara was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2020. On Saturday, April 4, 2026, Sara died at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth, Minnesota at the age of 68 years, 5 months and 19 days.

Sara was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Luverne. She enjoyed playing bingo, listening to the band GPO, and going to the races in Rock Rapids, Iowa, Hartford, South Dakota and Brainerd, Minnesota. Camping was something her and Randy loved to do as well and enjoyed spending time with their camping friends.

Sara is survived by her husband, Randy; nephews, Jessie Freeborn, and Shane (Blossom) Freeborn of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; great niece and nephew, Canyon and Sylvie; and sibling, Cleon (Sue) McClure; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Johanna McClure; sisters, Laura Hauff, and Ruth McClure; father and mother-in-law, Don and Lorraine Van Nieuwenhuizen; and sister-in-law, Darla Van Nieuwenhuizen.
