Scott Alan Hoogeveen, 54, passed away on Wednesday, December 17, 2025. He was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed.
Scott Alan Hoogeveen was born on October 14, 1971 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Alvin and Shirley (Berghorst) Hoogeveen.
Quiet by nature, Scott had a kind heart that spoke louder than words. He showed his love through his steady presence, thoughtful actions, and willingness to help anyone who needed it- never expecting anything in return. Scott had a dry sense of humor that could catch you off guard and make you laugh when you least expected it.
Like many, Scott carried a burden that was not always visible. He struggled with alcoholism, an illness that few of us understood, and one that he fought bravely yet more quietly than he should have, and ultimately one he could not overcome. However, this hardship did not define him, but is part of his story- and it speaks to the depth of his humanity, and the weight he carried while still giving so much love to others.
Above all else, Scott adored his daughter, Sophie. Being her father was his greatest pride and joy. She was the light of his life. The way he looked at her and cared for her showed the very best of him. Through Sophie, Scott’s love continues.
We are endlessly grateful to Pam for her constant presence, patience and unwavering support. Her loyalty and care meant more to him than words could ever express, and her love gave him comfort during times when life felt overwhelming. We also smile when we think of Hazel, the furry friend who brought him joy and a sense of calm.
Family meant everything to Scott. He was a constant source of quiet strength, kindness, and loyalty, and his absence leaves a space that cannot be filled. While he may not have spoken loudly, his love was deep, sincere, and lasting.
Scott is survived by his daughter, Sophie of Elkhorn, Nebraska; brother, Doug; and sisters, Shelley, Jill, and Tammy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Shirley Hoogeveen; and brother, Jeff.
Private family services will be held.
