Scott Wollum, was born on February 27, 1954 to Clarence and Antoinette Wollum in Norway, Michigan. It was here where Scott fell in love with racing, when at the age of six he went to watch racing for the first time at Norway Speedway in Norway, MI. Growing up in the Upper Peninsula, Scott enjoyed watching races, specifically dirt track races. Watching racing inspired Scott to blend his love for art with his love for racing by hand-drawing custom racing shirts, designing and building competition radio control race cars. Scott participated in basketball through High School where he played varsity against now famous coaches Tom Izzo and Steve Mariucci. After graduating high school Scott studied art and design at Northern Michigan University and later Michigan State University. Following school, Scott held a variety of jobs such as working at the paper mill, welding, and he also ran his own art studio. Scott continued to pursue his passion for art. He developed a cartoon strip titled “Ask Pling Anything.” The strip was published through syndication in numerous daily and weekly newspapers, mainly the Chicago Sun-Times.
Scott took a position with a telephone line contracting firm that brought him to southern Minnesota in 1994. It is here where Scott met the love of his life, Donna Wollum. On November 17th, 1995 they were married in Mankato, Minnesota at Good Shephard Lutheran Church. Scott and Donna loved to travel to races together where Scott was able to share his artistic talents with other racing fans like him. Heart bypass surgery in 1999 forced Scott to exit the workforce which opened up more opportunities to travel to race tracks where he would share his art with others. Scott passed away unexpectedly on November 6th, 2023, at the Pipestone County Medical Center in Pipestone, Minnesota.
Scott is survived by his wife, Donna Wollum of Pipestone, Minnesota; his daughter, Angie Detert of Mora, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Abigail and Kadin Detert of Mora, Minnesota; sister Jacquie Moore of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; brother-in-laws, Dale Detert of Las Vegas, Nevada, Erich Detert of Piedmont, California, Karl Detert of Dublin, California; sister-in-law, Savannah Detert of Lawton, Oklahoma; Niece Missy Williams of Detroit, Michigan and Nephews Mike Moore of Spokane, Washington and Matt Moore of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin; seven grand-nephews and three grand-nieces; He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Antoinette Wollum of Norway, Michigan; and his brother, Clifford Wollum of Iron Mountain, Michigan.
