Sharon Marie Petersen was born on April 3, 1957 to Matthew and Eunice (Scott) Rustman in Marshall, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith. Sharon grew up on the back of a horse on the family farm with her many siblings. She attended school in Russel, MN, and moved to the Tracy area after high school to raise her two sons. On January 30, 1988, she was united in marriage to Carl Petersen in Tracy.
After marriage, the couple moved to Montevideo, MN where they welcomed two daughters. The family moved to Pipestone in 1994, where she held various jobs throughout the community and at the school until 2021. In retirement, she enjoyed volunteering, being involved in the church and with other activities in the Pipestone community. On Friday, January 30th, the couple’s 38th wedding anniversary, Sharon suddenly passed away at the age of 68 and was lovingly reunited with Carl in the hereafter.
Sharon loved horses her whole life, a passion she shared with Carl as they raised Quarter Horses for 10 years in Pipestone. She loved gardening – both tending to flowers and growing vegetables. She always stayed very busy outside during the warm months. She enjoyed cooking and baking, making sure no one left her house hungry. Sharon was always up for a game, or ten, of Yahtzee or other dice games with her family.
The sun and a cold Coors Light or Blue Moon on a hot summer’s day at their acreage west of Pipestone were one of her favorite ways to relax with family or friends. Losing Carl in 2022 was a devastation that forever left a hole in her heart. There is great comfort in knowing they are together again.
Sharon is lovingly remembered by her four children, Brad (Lisa) Rustman of Alexandria, Minnesota, Jason (Nikki) Rustman of Fort Knox, Kentucky, Becky (Jake) Van Dyke of Elkton, South Dakota, and Ashley of Brookings, South Dakota; six grandchildren, Bryce, Reid, Eve, AJ, Jazelle, and Adonis; six siblings, many other family members and close friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Carl, her parents, Matthew and Eunice; and ten siblings.
