SHEILA "ANN" VERSTEEG was born on July 7, 1955, to Earl and Elaine (Mosher) McLean in Flint, Michigan. Ann grew up in Bay City, Michigan, and graduated from Bay City Central in 1974. Immediately following graduation, she enlisted in the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Gordon in Augusta, Georgia. Ann was honorably discharged on October 28, 1975 and relocated to Germany for a year before returning to the United States to raise her children. She called many states 'home' before choosing to call Ruthton her home base. Ann was united in marriage to Wayne “Chico” Versteeg on July 21, 1989, in Pipestone, Minnesota. During this time, Ann received her cosmetology certificate at Minnesota West Community and Technical College in Pipestone. After 12 years of marriage, Chico passed away in 2002. On April 18, 2003, Ann was baptized at the First Presbyterian Church in Pipestone. Ann then moved to multiple locations throughout the United States to be with her children who were continuously active in the service. She lived in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Washington state, and South Dakota. Ann passed away on Monday, May 23, 2022, at the Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, at the age of 66 years, 10 months, and 16 days.

Throughout Ann's life, she held many positions, including working as a housekeeper at the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune in Jacksonville, North Carolina, was a cashier at a grocery store in Yakima, Washington, and was an executive housekeeper and manager at Super 8 and the Grandstay Hotel in Pipestone. Ann also worked as a hairstylist always welcoming friends and family who needed a haircut. Ann enjoyed fishing, traveling, and painting. She especially loved music, going to the beach, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Ann was a kind, humble, strong, funny and positive person who was always loyal to her family. She was proud of all her children, step-children, and grandchildren. Ann will be deeply missed by all who had the opportunity to truly get to know her.
