Sheila K. Boulais

Sheila Kay Boulais was born on January 24, 1943 to Harvey and Eleanor (Arndt) Tvedt in Pipestone, Minnesota.  Prior to graduating her father was in construction, so the family moved to many places including Holland, Westbrook, Wilmont, Chandler, and Marshall, Minnesota, as well as Madison and Chester South Dakota.  One of the highlights of Sheila’s life was when her father helped with construction on the Manhattan Project and the Nokomis Apartments in Pipestone.  Sheila later became the longest resident of the Nokomis Apartment, living there for 19 years.  The family settled back in Pipestone where Sheila graduated from Pipestone High School and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith.  In 1961, Sheila was united in marriage to Arnold “Sonny” Boulais and the couple moved to Madison, South Dakota.  To this union, four children were born, Terry, Tammy, Steven, and David before the marriage dissolved in 1969.  Sheila remained in Madison, working at Winks with her sister, Ardie, for a number of years.  She then started a new job that she loved as head cook for Schriver’s Café.  She moved to Yankton, South Dakota for three years and then to Mitchell, South Dakota where she met Dwayne Florian Hohn.  Sheila and Dwayne welcomed three more children, Michael, Angie, and Michelle.

Sheila’s greatest blessings were her children, grandchildren, and playing with her siblings in her younger days.  She loved her country school and had fond memories of going to Lange’s Café for coffee and pie.  She enjoyed riding the transit as it was a great place to meet new people.  She also had a passion for WWF wrestling, which she loved to watch on TV, but even better was the night that Michael and Michelle took her to the Denny Sanford Premier Center to watch in person.  And of course, she loved her Dr. Pepper.  Nothing beats the year for Christmas that she got a pallet of Dr. Pepper.  Her mouth dropped open with surprise.  She loved sharing her memories of driving around in her Ford Thunderbird.

Sheila entered the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone in 2022 after a fall.  She was soon after put on hospice due to complications from liver cancer for the second time.  Despite her prognosis, she always kept an upbeat and happy attitude with lots of spunk.  With a Dr. Pepper in her hand and Michelle and Michael at her side, she made the most of her time at Good Sam, making friends with the staff and residents alike.  In the early hours of April 20, 2023 Sheila passed away peacefully at the age of 80 years, 2 months, and 27 days.  Blessed be her memory.

Sheila is lovingly remembered by her children, Terry (Cheryl) Boulais of Lincoln, Nebraska, Tammy (Larry) Haak of Urbandale, Iowa, David Boulais of Knoxville, Iowa, Michael Hohn of Pipestone, Minnesota, Michelle (Mike) Brown, of Holstein, Iowa; grandchildren, Heather Boulais, Rachel (Greg) Suhr, Summer Boulais, Christopher Haak, Tasha (Mark) Dunn, and Jordan (Britt) Whipple; great-grandchildren, Karissa Suhr, Kinley Dunn, Ava Dunn, Nora Dunn, Jayden Whipple, and Alayna Whipple; siblings, Lynn (Lisa) Tvedt of Wentworth, South Dakota, and Diane Tvedt of Chester, South Dakota; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.  She was preceded in death by her infant daughter Angie Hohn; son Steven Boulais; infant granddaughter Maggie Prinsen; parents Harvey and Eleanor Tvedt; sister Ardie Gum; brother Larry Tvedt; and her grandparents John and Annie (Lakeman) Arndt and Holden and Mabel Tvedt.
