Sheldon Raymond Steele

Sheldon Raymond Steele was born on July 6, 1944 to Fred and Marietta (Thies) Steele in Garden City, South Dakota. He grew up on a farm between Ivanhoe and Hendricks, Minnesota. Sheldon attended school in Ivanhoe, graduating from Ivanhoe High School in 1962. After graduation, Sheldon worked with his dad on the farm. On November 27, 1971, he was married to Katherine Strobeck in Minot, North Dakota and continued to farm in Shaokatan Township for a time. They made various moves near Hendricks and Storden, Minnesota working as a farm hand. In 1984, they moved to Tyler, Minnesota. He continued with farm jobs and also became employed by Schwan’s Ice Cream plant and worked in the freezer department. Katherine passed away in 2009. In August of 2012, Sheldon moved to Boulder Estates in Marshall, Minnesota.

Sheldon was a member of the Methodist Church in Ivanhoe where he was baptized and confirmed. He knew Jesus. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, baking antiquing and he even put together a booklet of blizzard history in Southwest Minnesota.  In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting, waterskiing, and snowmobiling. Middle age years he enjoyed driving in the country, visiting friends and socializing, playing cards and going to sales. He had a sweet tooth and loved desserts, coffee and diet coke. He always had a smile on his face and liked to share laughs.

He is survived by his daughters, Renae (Mike) Kain of Champlin, Minnesota and Roxanne (Brian) Swab of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and two grandsons, Ryker and Tanner Swab. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy; an infant daughter; his parents, Fred and Marietta; an infant sister; and a grandchild.
