Shirley Urke Tholen

SHIRLEY JEAN URKE THOLEN, age 85, of Pipestone, Minnesota, died Monday, October 10, 2022 at the Good Samaritan Communities in Pipestone after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born on May 6, 1937 to Melvin and Isabelle (Regnier) Urke near Milroy, Minnesota. She grew up near Vesta, Minnesota, along with her siblings, Phyllis, Delbert, June, Joyce, Mavis, Linda, Alona, Doug, Bev and Carol. She later graduated from Marshall High School in Marshall, Minnesota. On January 6, 1959, Shirley was united in marriage to Virgil Hagberg. The couple farmed near Balaton, Minnesota, where they raised their four children. Shirley was employed as a C.N.A., worked at Marshall Egg plant-grading eggs, and did housecleaning during her career. She was a caretaker and enjoyed caring for her family and home. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking, but especially enjoyed dancing to polka music; Kitty Wells was a favorite of hers.
