Sondra Coulter

Sondra Arlene Coulter was born on February 16, 1940 in Walnut Grove, Minnesota to Winfred and Ethel (Johnson) Nordsiden. She was a graduate of Walnut Grove High School in 1958, where she excelled as the valedictorian, and was actively involved in the high school band and theater.On December 20, 1958, Sondra was united in marriage to LeRoy Keith Johnson. The couple was blessed with one son, Robert. Following her graduation from Mankato Commercial College in Mankato, Minnesota in 1959 with an Associate's Degree in Secretarial Administration, she dedicated her career to various administrative roles, notably serving at Avera McKennan Hospital until her retirement in 2016. On February 15, 1971, she was united in marriage to Max Cincinnatus in Galveston, Texas. Max preceded her in death in November 1981. On June 4, 1982, Sondra married Donald Stewart Coulter at Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The couple resided in Willmar, Minnesota and later moved to Pequot Lake, Minnesota where they built a home on Whitefish Lake. In 1995, the couple decided to move to the Naples, Florida area. In 1998, they relocated to Luverne, Minnesota. Don preceded her in death in 2006. On Thursday, August 20, 2026, Sondra passed away at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Cottage at the age of 86 years, 6 months and 4 days.

A devoted member of the United Methodist Church in Luverne and the American Legion Auxiliary for 26 years, Sondra was also an active volunteer at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne. Her life was enriched by hobbies such as bird watching, canning, fishing, Bible study, and playing cards with her friends. Her passion for travel took her to beautiful destinations including Mexico and Costa Rica, with a particular love for deep-sea fishing.

Sondra is survived by her son, Robert (Tammy) Johnson of Whispering Pines, North Carolina; step-son, Carsten Lynge of Copenhagen, Denmark; brother, Dannie (Renee) Nordsiden of Vancouver, Washington; five grandchildren, Grayson, Bethany, Brianna, Ben, and Nick; and two great-grandchildren, James and Jakub; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Max and Don; parents, Winfred and Ethel; sisters, Delores Syverson and Ellen Thoma; and her son, James Johnson. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Luverne American Legion Auxiliary.
