Steven Nordmeyer

Steven Ronald Nordmeyer was born on Monday, August 23, 1948 to Ronald and Mavis (Enke) Nordmeyer at the hospital in Tyler, Minnesota. He was raised in Lake Benton, Minnesota and attended Lake Benton public schools. Growing up, he loved competing in football, basketball and track. Outside of school, Steve enjoyed hunting, trapping and fishing. As a teenager, he worked two summers at Lake Shaokatan cleaning fish. Following school, he moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota and worked at Snyder Drug Warehouse for three years. On December 5, 1965, Steve was united in marriage to Kathy Meyer in Brookings, South Dakota. They later moved back to Lake Benton so Steve could work at Ron’s Market, which was owned and operated by his parents, Ron and Mavis. Steve worked there for twenty years before purchasing the store from his parents in 1989. Steve and Kathy were proud to own and operate Steve’s Affiliated grocery store before retiring in 2013. He enjoyed his retirement years spending time at the lake, visiting with his grandkids and continuing his love of trapping.

On Wednesday, April 30, 2025 Steve passed away at his home surrounded by family at the age of 76 years, eight months and seven days.

Steve was a member of St. Genevieve Catholic Church in Lake Benton where he was baptized and confirmed. He was a member of the Sportsman Club, Pheasants Forever and Minnesota Trapper’s Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and loved anything with nature and outdoor activities. When indoors, he enjoyed playing solitaire on his computer. Steve loved attending his grandkids’ activities and socializing with people. He had a strong work ethic and enjoyed his weekend drive in the countryside to look over the land and search for wild asparagus or May flowers.

Steve is lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Kathy; three children, Todd (Pamela) Nordmeyer of Prescott, Wisconsin, Trudy (David) Legatt of Foley, Minnesota, and Tracy (Alexander) Oey of Marshall, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Kaila (Zack) Kamrass, Sarah (Jake) Seifert, Luke Nordmeyer, Haley (Brandon) Nordmeyer, Briton Nordmeyer, Abigail (Zack) Zimmer, Isabelle Legatt, Xander Oey, Braylon Oey; four great-grandchildren, Berkley, Palmer, Owen, Baker; a brother, Paul Nordmeyer (friend, Stephanie Meyer) of Lake Benton; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Chad Nordmeyer; and parents, Ronald and Mavis.
