Susan “Sue” Marie Fey-Uilk was born on July 9, 1950 to Archie “Lloyd” and Maxine (Severson) Bunker in Lake Preston, South Dakota. She was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Luverne, Minnesota. Throughout her childhood she attended school in Lester, Iowa; Hills/Beaver Creek and in Pipestone, Minnesota, where she graduated in 1968 from Pipestone High School. Following high school, Sue worked at S&L Clothing from 1968 to 1971, then she was transferred to Casper, Wyoming to help set up a new Bostwick Store. She became the manager of the Women’s Department during her time there. She returned back home to Ihlen, Minnesota where she met and married Donovan Fey on June 17, 1978 at the Jasper Lutheran Church in Jasper, Minnesota. The couple moved to Woodstock, Minnesota, where they raised four children. While in Woodstock, they were long time members of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Donovan preceded her in death on February 21, 1992. Sue later met and fell in love with Bernie Uilk. The couple were united in marriage on May 5, 2001 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. Sue passed away peacefully on Monday, December 15, 2025 at the Pipestone County Hospice House in Pipestone, at the age of 75 years, five months and six days.
Sue was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pipestone. She was heavily involved in the growth of the church and the fellowship among the members. She was always willing to volunteer when it was needed. Sue was also involved with the Pipestone Chamber of Commerce. She was no stranger to working hard – she dedicated 20 years of her life to building a successful clothing business, So-Jo’s Sportswear, on Main Street Pipestone. She was a friendly, familiar face to all who stepped through the doors. Sue then pursued her next passion and purchased and operated The Spot Drive-In restaurant in Flandreau, South Dakota, where she served ‘fat-free’ burgers and ice cream cones for 10 years. Her smile could always light up a room and her ability to make everyone feel instantly at ease around her will be greatly missed.
Sue is survived by her husband, Bernie Uilk, of Pipestone, Minnesota; four children, Brett Westley of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Troy (Jessica) Westley of Wayzata, Minnesota, Wyatt Fey of Woodstock, Minnesota, Laisha (Matthew) Winter of Petersburg, Nebraska, four step-children, Brian (Jessica) Uilk of Pipestone, Kevin (Kim) Uilk of Pipestone, Daniel (Casey) Uilk of Pipestone and Tony (Chrystine) Uilk of Pipestone; grandchildren, Chase, Braiden, Addyson, Landon, Stella, Lila, Trisha, Josey, Hatty, Wiley, Caitlin, Kiara, Kamdyn, Kaeya, Lucas, Jacob, Kestyn, Olyvia, Novaly and Hayden; great-grandchildren, Leon and Julian; siblings, Mary (Marlin) Boom of Ellsworth, Minnesota, Barb (Jack) Ockenga of Egan, South Dakota, Pat Frick of Hugo, Minnesota, Larry (Paula) Bunker of Sioux Falls, Mike (Roseanne) Bunker of Surprise, Arizona, Jeff Bunker of Brookings, South Dakota, and Terry (Brenda) Bunker of Thornton, Colorado; and “numerous” nieces and nephews. Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Maxine Bunker; husband, Donovon Fey; and daughter-in-law, Tanya Fey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to go to the Pipestone County Hospice House.
