Vonnie Renae Baker, age 57, of Steen, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at her home on April 29, 2026. Vonnie was born on August 30, 1968, in Luverne, Minnesota, to Donald and Martha (Groen) DeJong. She grew up surrounded by family and faith—values she carried with her throughout her life. On September 11, 1987, she was united in marriage to Alan Baker. Together, they built a life rooted in love, hard work, and deep devotion to their family. Vonnie’s greatest pride and joy was being a mom and grandma. She poured her heart into her children and grandchildren, showing them unconditional love, patience, and guidance every step of the way. Vonnie was a devoted member of Steen Reformed Church. Her faith was evident in the way she lived—through kindness, grace, and a steady, unwavering strength.
In 2018, Vonnie was diagnosed with polycythemia, a rare type of blood cancer. In November 2025, she was diagnosed with two additional cancers—lymphoma and leukemia. She faced each diagnosis with incredible courage. Through it all, she carried herself with grace, strength, and a light that never dimmed.
She will be remembered as the best mom, farm wife, and grandma—someone who gave endlessly to those she loved. Vonnie found joy in the simple, meaningful things: coloring, shopping trips, Sunday lunches, cheering on her kids and grandkids at their events, and working at Rosie’s, where many would say she made the very best coffee. Her smile could light up a room, and her love was felt by everyone who knew her. Some of the most treasured memories shared with Vonnie include family trips to the Black Hills, annual vacations to the lake, and the many adventures she and Alan enjoyed with Dave and Debbie. These moments will be held close forever.
She is survived by her loving husband, Alan Baker; her children, Kilee (Eric) Uittenbogaard, Danielle (Shea) Klooster, and Hallie (Logan) Crosby; her cherished grandchildren, Harper and Eden Uittenbogaard; Gracelyn, Tauren, and Declyn Klooster; and Lincoln and Meredith Crosby. She is also survived by her mother, Martha (Ron) Pronk; her siblings, Cindy (Scott) Hartog, Ivan (Jamie) DeJong, Debbie (Dave) Tilstra, and Scott (Cheryl) DeJong; and her in-laws, Glenda (Terry) Sandstede, Eunice (Dave) Roozenboom, Lois (Arlen) Leenderts, Laura (Brad) Dykstra, and Tim (Andrea) Baker. Along with many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Donald DeJong; her in-laws, Albert and Jane Baker; her stepfather-in-law, John Bosch; her sister, Amy DeJong; and her sister-in-law, Darla Baker.
Vonnie will be remembered for her deep love, her patience, her beautiful smile, and her quiet strength. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, and love that will live on in each of the hearts she touched.
Memorials may be directed to Touch of Hope Haiti - a non-profit organization that Vonnie held dear to her heart.
