WILFRED BERNARD SANDERSON was born to Louis and Alma (Severson) Sanderson on December 26, 1925, on a farm in Walsh County, North Dakota. In 1931, he moved with his parents to a farm near Florence, Minnesota where he was raised and attended country school in District 56. Upon completion of his education, he helped on the family farm until September 19, 1950, when he entered the United States Army and served during the Korean War. After his discharge from the service on June 18, 1952, he returned to the family farm. On July 19, 1952, he was united in marriage to Norma Mikkelsen at Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler, Minnesota. Following their marriage, they lived and farmed there until his retirement in 1986. His wife preceded him in death on October 21, 1986. He continued to reside on the farm for a short while prior to moving into Russell, Minnesota. In August of 2015, he became a resident of the Lakeview Senior Housing in Balaton, Minnesota. On Tuesday, April 20, 2021, Wilfred died peacefully at the Sunrise Manor in Tyler after residing there for just under three months. He was 95 years, three months, and 25 days of age.

Wilfred was a member of Danebod Lutheran Church in Tyler. He was also a member of the American Legion in both Ruthton and Tyler and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed reading in his spare time. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is lovingly remembered by four sons, Wayne (Janice) Sanderson of Glencoe, Minnesota, Craig Sanderson of Balaton, Calvin Sanderson of Monroe, Wisconsin, and Michael (Audie) Sanderson of Russell, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren, Derek, Kari, Colton, Tye, Ashlee, Shelbi, Rhonda, Alayna, Jada, Corbin, and Spencer; seven great-grandchildren, Paislee, Taylor, Rilyn, Makenna, Elijah, Emmet, and Nora; and two brothers, Lester Sanderson of Tyler and Victor (Zona) Sanderson of Flandreau, South Dakota. He is preceded in death by his wife; son, Gerald Sanderson; parents; and four sisters, Arlene Grahm, Ione Sutton, Evelyn Mix, and Viola Welsand.
