MARIAN BETTY RUPP was born to Ole and Clara (Haroldson) Haraldson on December 9, 1925 on a farm in Rose Dell Township, Rock County, Minnesota. She was raised on farms by Jasper, Trosky, and Russell, Minnesota where she attended country schools. When her parents moved into Pipestone, Minnesota, she completed her education there. In 1945, she moved to Temple, Texas where she married Lawrence DeShazer. Marian returned to Pipestone in 1946 and was united in marriage to Clifford Rupp on July 4, 1947. Following their marriage, they lived in Ruthton, Minnesota where Marian worked at the school cafeteria for many years. In 1972 the couple moved to their home at the location that became known as Rupp’s Corner in Ruthton. In May of 2016, Marian moved to the Ridge View Estates in Pipestone, Minnesota. In June of 2019 she entered the care of the Good Samaritan Communities of Pipestone where she resided until her death on Friday, December 10, 2021 at the age of 96 years.
Marian was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Ruthton. Marian was a lady that could do anything! She could crochet blankets, refinish furniture, bake cookies, paint ceramics, tend her garden, and bowl strikes. She was a collector of many things, keeping her collections well organized. The Rupp family, at the urging of Marian, enjoyed “adopting” the highway near Ruthton and cleaning the ditches each year. She was funny, but could be stern. She was firm in her parenting, but fair as well. Marian was a right arm to Clifford through the years in her assistance to him in running his business. Most of all, spending time with family was a treasure to Marian and she loved to see the family tree grow more and more.
She is lovingly remembered by her four children, Sharon (David) Fadness of Ruthton, Minnesota, Robert (Becky) Rupp of Ruthton, Minnesota, Joanne (Brent) DeRuyter of Ruthton, Minnesota, and Robbin (Craig) Rollag of Underwood, Minnesota; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; one brother, James (Geraldine) Haraldson of Luverne, Minnesota; and one sister, Linda Rickard of Grand Island, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; her granddaughter, Angel Fadness; three brothers, Gene, Clarence, and Vern Haraldson; and one sister, Iylla Larson.
